Nicholas Alexander Chavez has officially marked his departure from the popular show, General Hospital, on May 3, 2023. This news came as a surprise to many as the actor has made a significant impact since his debut.
The actor first graced our screens as Spencer Cassadine in 2021, capturing the hearts of audiences. His performance was recognized and rewarded, earning him a Daytime Emmy award for Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series in 2022.
A Gracious Goodbye
Embracing the news of his exit, Chavez expressed his gratitude towards the show, its producers, writers, directors, and fellow actors. He expressed sincere thanks for the opportunity to be part of such a beloved series. Notably, he also extended his appreciation to the dedicated fans of General Hospital, acknowledging their unwavering support.
From Temporary to Permanent
Originally, Chavez’s exit was intended as a leave of absence for the star to join Ryan Murphy’s series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. Yet, as circumstances evolved, this temporary absence transitioned into a permanent departure. Evidence of this change became apparent when Chavez’s name was removed from the show’s opening credits in late March.
Network Response
As of now, ABC, the network that airs General Hospital, has refrained from commenting on Chavez’s departure.
Other Cast Changes
Chavez’s exit is not the only recent change in General Hospital’s lineup. Other actors such as Roger Howarth and Eden McCoy have also recently left the show. Meanwhile, Kirsten Storms and Kelly Monaco briefly paused their participation in the series before the end of 2023. On a more positive note, Steve Burton, known for his role as Jason Morgan, made a reappearance in a March 4 episode, following his departure in 2020.
