Chmerkovskiy and his wife Jenna Johnson recently responded to swirling retirement rumors, sparking interest in their potential return for the upcoming season 33 of Dancing With The Stars (DWTS).
Chmerkovskiy Addresses Retirement Rumors
The reigning mirrorball champion, Val Chmerkovskiy, found himself facing questions about his dance future on December 9. A curious fan inquired whether he would grace the DWTS stage for the next season. In response, Chmerkovskiy dismissed any talks of retirement, asserting he would be ready to make a comeback if invited back.
Where The Rumors Came From
Jenna Johnson has her own theory about the origin of these rumors. She thinks they might have come from her own emotional reaction to her husband's final performances with dance partner Xochitl Gomez.
Recap of DWTS Season 32
In the previous season of the show, Chmerkovskiy and Johnson were part of the professional lineup. Chmerkovskiy was teamed up with the 17-year-old Marvel star Gomez, and Johnson shared the dance floor with model Tyson Beckford.
Despite their valiant efforts, Johnson and Beckford unfortunately didn't make it past week 3, being knocked out of the competition early on. On the other hand, Chmerkovskiy and Gomez had a remarkable run, reaching the finale and ultimately winning the season.
Chmerkovskiy’s Mirrorball Victories
This win was a significant accomplishment for Chmerkovskiy. It marked his third mirrorball victory, following his successful partnerships with Rumer Willis and Laurie Hernandez in earlier seasons.
It's also worth noting that Chmerkovskiy and Gomez were the first to be awarded the newly renamed Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. This name change serves as a tribute to the beloved DWTS head judge, Len Goodman, who passed away in April at 78.
