Marking another public appearance after laying low since his scandal, Matt Lauer and his girlfriend Shamin Abas were among the famous faces at Don Lemon's recent wedding in New York City.
On April 6, about 140 guests gathered to witness the union at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. The event was presided over by no less than Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States ambassador to the United Nations.
The couple was in notable company, with guests list boasting names like Ana Navarro-Cárdenas, Sunny Hostin, Tamron Hall, Luann de Lesseps, Clive Davis, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Alec and Hilaria Baldwin.
Abas and Lauer’s relationship history
Abas and Lauer have been together since 2019, transitioning to a new relationship after Lauer ended more than two decades of marriage with Annette Roque. His dismissal from NBC's Today in 2017, was marred by allegations of sexual misconduct.
Despite the tumultuous events of his past, Lauer managed to maintain ties with some of his former Today show colleagues. He was spotted at the wedding of the show's former producer Jennifer Long.
Savannah Guthrie’s stance
Not all former coworkers have been as open to Lauer's presence. Savannah Guthrie, for instance, has reportedly made clear that she's not interested in fostering a friendship with Lauer.
Lauer’s future plans
Since his departure from TV, Lauer has maintained a low profile. He's considering new routes for his career, with prospects of a podcast deal seeming promising. His children, having accepted their father's career shift, have reportedly been supportive of his decisions.
Lemon’s fairytale wedding
The wedding ceremony of Lemon and his partner was a mix of tradition and personality, with a unity candle lighting, heartfelt readings and speeches, and a unique Irish blessing. The newlyweds, donned in custom double-breasted suits, have plans to honeymoon in southern Italy come June.
Post-ceremony festivities took place at the Polo Bar, where guests indulged in dancing, a scrumptious dinner and dessert. It was certainly a night to remember.
