Early Life and Musical Journey
Boyd cofounded Incubus in 1991 when he was just 15. With his distinctive voice leading the band, Incubus has found considerable success, having sold between 23 and 24 million albums to date. Fans can look forward to a 10-arena tour across the U.S. in August, where the band will perform their acclaimed album Morning View in its entirety.
Broader Interests
Boyd’s interests extend well beyond music. Since his early years, he has been intrigued by plants and fungi, and a fascination for books led him to start a personal collection. From the age of 10, he embraced surfing, which he continues to enjoy.
He also has a keen interest in art, particularly painting, and has been displaying his works since the early 2000s. This interest culminated in the establishment of his fine art print company, Moonlight Arts Collective, three years ago.
Other pursuits include writing, which he shares on the Substack platform, and a love for horror films. He’s been fascinated by accents, dialects and languages, and has a personal collection of tattoos, which began when he was 15.
Solo Musical Endeavours
Besides Incubus, Boyd has also embarked on solo projects, producing three albums: The Wild Trapeze in 2010, Sons of the Sea in 2013, and Echoes & Cocoons in 2022.
Personal Life
Boyd had a special bond with his French bulldog, Bruce, who lived to be 15 years and three months. He also had brief stint in acting, playing White Jesus on Reservation Dogs.
Unique Quirks
Some interesting quirks set Boyd apart. He tends to shed tears while watching bad movies on airplanes and has playfully named his bunion Paul and his kneecaps Chet and Garrison. In his childhood, he was convinced that the Big Bad Wolf lived in his toilet, leading him to enlist his brother’s company to the bathroom. A terrifying self-portrait of his mother also haunted him and his brothers during their childhood.
Overcoming Adversity
Even an incident of severe burns from a pot of coffee in his infancy couldn’t deter his love for the beverage. Despite the ordeal, coffee remains a beloved part of his life.
